understand about Swing Trading

Swing trading is a medium term style of trading where trades are held for anywhere from one day to several weeks. This style of trading is similar to the day trading style, in that many of the same trading systems can be used, but the difference is that the chart timeframe would be much longer (e.g. daily charts instead of 15 minute charts). Swing trading includes a couple of different types of trades, such as :

• Trend Trading - Medium term trades that may last anywhere from one day to several weeks, or even longer if the trend continues, with profit targets of several tens or hundreds of ticks. Trend trading is performed using a graphical chart, with or without indicators, with trades following the current market direction.
• Counter Trend Trading - Medium term trades that are entered with the expectation that the current trend is soon going to reverse. Counter trend trades can last anywhere from one day to several weeks, or longer if a new trend develops, with profit targets of several tens or hundreds of ticks. Counter Trend trading is performed using a graphical chart, with or without indicators, trading against the current market direction, but with the expectation that the direction will soon reverse.
• Range Trading - Short to medium term trades that usually last only a few days, with profit targets of several tens of ticks. Range trading is performed using a graphical chart, with or without indicators, trading in both directions (long and short) while the market moves in short term trends in both directions.

Swing trading is a popular trading style with professional traders, and is used by individuals and commercial traders alike. Pure day traders often view swing trading as having greater risk, because trades are held overnight, but when traded correctly, swing trading has no greater risk, and can be very profitable.
